CardioStart Volunteers Mentor New Cardiac Program in Vietnam

Kien Giang Hospital in southwest Vietnam invited CardioStart to assist medical staff as they build their new adult and pediatric cardiac surgical program. With a local population of 1.7 million, occupations are mostly agriculture and fishing, and many exist in great poverty. Since 1987, with its league of dedicated volunteers, CardioStart International has strived to play a role in the ever-advancing need to fight the world's #1 killer-- cardiovascular disease (CVD). Most recent data shows that 17.3 million people died of CVD in 2008. Eighty percent of those were from poor and middle-income countries.

Despite medical advances and significant declines in cardiovascular deaths, a considerable gap in access to cardiovascular healthcare between developed and undeveloped countries continues to widen. Although a large proportion of CVDs is preventable, deaths continue to rise mainly because preventive measures are inadequate.

CardioStart Thrift Store Featured On Local TV Station

CardioStart Thrift Store in Sisters Oregon was profiled by Terry Lynn of Oregon Lifestyle. Sherry Mquire was awesome and describing the store and it's positive impact for both CS and the community as a whole.

Even though the ReSale Thrift Store was talked about quite a bit, the CS charity itself was featured heavily with stills from missions shown in the video.

Mission Announcement - Uganda, November 4-16th

CardioStart announces our 2012 inaugural mission to Uganda, Africa, November 4 –16. We invite you to participate on this team. This is both an adult and pediatric surgical mission. As part of the mission, we will assist the Mulago University Hospital (MUH) in their 5-year development plan to establish pediatric heart surgery and cardiology intervention services. To date, MUH has made advances in pediatric cardiac evaluation and surgery, and the evolution of a cardiac catheter laboratory. CardioStart's volunteers can assist in the development of a self-sustaining program.

Volunteers experienced in either adult or pediatric heart surgery and care are invited to register for consideration.....

Mission Announcement - Peru - September 22-October 6th

CardioStart International announces the 2012 return mission to Arequipa, Peru, September 23 – October 6, 2012. We invite you to participate on the team. In this mission, we will return to our previous work at the Honorio Delgado Hospital in Arequipa, Peru and continue development of the Pediatric and Adult Cardiac Development Programs as well as our Outreach Program with local orphanages.

This is CardioStart's 11th full mission over the past 16 years. Volunteers with serious medical conditions should carefully consider obtaining consultation/approval from their doctor prior to joining the mission due to the high altitude at greater than 8,000 feet....
